Occupation Description

Investigations: The Detectives duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

 

1.     Conducts follow up investigations on each assigned case, until there is an approved disposition.

2.     Investigates delinquent and status offenses committed by juveniles

3.     Informs the Investigation Division Lieutenant of all progress in cases assigned by promptly submitting detailed accurate supplementary reports.

4.     Develops and follows up on intelligence information regarding criminal activity and identification, and forward such information to the Patrol Division if applicable.

5.     Develops confidential sources that provide information to further investigative effectiveness.

6.     Conducts crime scene searches, gathers and documents evidence and preserves physical evidence.

7.     Assists and cooperates with other Jacksonville Police Department personnel in the investigation of offenses, toward the objectives of apprehension and prosecution of criminals and the recovery of property.

8.     Shares information and cooperates in investigations with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies whenever appropriate.

9.     Prepares cases and presents evidence in court.

10.  Questions and obtains statements from suspects, victims, witnesses and other interested parties.

11.  Conducts background investigations for City of Jacksonville applicants.

12.  Enforces state laws and city ordinances and makes arrests when applicable.

13.  Completes and forwards such forms, reports, and records as may be required.

14.  Performs other duties as may be required by state law, city ordinance, or departmental rule or assigned by a superior officer.

Salary Range

$53000 to $65000
