Occupation Description<\/h3>\n
Patrol: Patrol\nOfficer duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the\nfollowing:<\/o:p><\/p> <\/o:p>1. <\/span><\/b>Preserves\nthe public peace.<\/span><\/p><\/o:p><\/p>2. <\/span><\/b>Prevents\ncrime.<\/o:p><\/p>3. <\/span><\/b>Detects\nand arrests violators of the law.<\/o:p><\/p>4. <\/span><\/b>Protects\nlife and property.<\/o:p><\/p>5. <\/span><\/b>Responses\nto all calls for police services.<\/o:p><\/p>6. <\/span><\/b>Enforces\nall criminal and traffic laws of the State of Illinois and the ordinances of\nthe City of Jacksonville.<\/o:p><\/p>7. <\/span><\/b>Patrols\nan assigned area of the City and checks buildings to ensure that they are in a\nsafe condition and that no forced entries have occurred.<\/o:p><\/p>8. <\/span><\/b>Investigates\nsuspicious or unusual incidents occurring during his\/her tour of duty and\nconducts preliminary investigations of all actual crimes, which he\/she\ndiscovers or is assigned to investigate.<\/o:p><\/p>9. <\/span><\/b>Submits\naccurate written reports to his\/her supervisor in a timely manner.<\/o:p><\/p>10. <\/span><\/b>Apprehend\nand arrests for felony or misdemeanor offenses in accordance with city\nordinances and state statutes, collects and preserves evidence, and interviews\nany possible complainants and witnesses.<\/o:p><\/p>11. <\/span><\/b>Investigates\ncomplaints of a non-criminal nature (i.e. family disputes, neighborhood\nproblems, missing or injured persons) and assesses each individual case to\ndetermine appropriate action.<\/o:p><\/p>12. <\/span><\/b>Establishes\nsources of intelligence and information.<\/o:p><\/p>13. <\/span><\/b>Conducts\ntraffic crash investigations, completes required forms, including but not\nlimited to the identification of all passengers, vehicles, witnesses, location,\ninjuries, date and time, and issues citations where appropriate and consistent\nwith Departmental procedures.<\/o:p><\/p>14. <\/span><\/b>Enforces\ntraffic and parking regulations through visual or radar patrol.<\/o:p><\/p>15. <\/span><\/b>Observes\nand searches the scene of a crime for physical evidence. Collects, photographs,\nand\/or preserves evidence located for possible use in future legal proceedings.<\/o:p><\/p>16. <\/span><\/b>Completes\nspecial details when assigned.<\/o:p><\/p>17. <\/span><\/b>Provides\ntraffic and\/or crowd control at special events.<\/o:p><\/p>18. <\/span><\/b>Furnishes\nassistance and information to citizens and motorists.<\/o:p><\/p>19. <\/span><\/b>Completes\nall required reports and records in an accurate and timely manner.<\/o:p><\/p>20. <\/span><\/b>Serves\nas a witness in court cases and is responsible for obeying all lawful subpoenas.<\/o:p><\/p>21. <\/span><\/b>Performs\nspecial assignments as may be assigned by the Chief of Police or other\ncompetent authority. Examples of special assignments include but are not\nlimited to; Field Training Officer, Range Officer, Breath Alcohol Operator,\netc.<\/o:p><\/p>22. <\/span><\/b>Responsible\nfor attending daily roll call, unless otherwise engaged in police duties, and\nrecording all appropriate information relayed by the Shift Commander or Shift\nSupervisor.<\/o:p><\/p>23. <\/span><\/b>Serves\nsubpoena\u2019s and summonses as required.<\/o:p><\/p>24. <\/span><\/b>Attends\ntraining sessions and departmental meetings as may be required.<\/o:p><\/p>25. <\/span><\/b>Maintains\na courteous and professional demeanor when interacting with members of the\nJacksonville Police Department and the public.<\/o:p><\/p>26. <\/span><\/b>Established\nand maintains a rapport with all members and segments of the community to\nenhance the police image and instill a respect for law and order.<\/o:p><\/p>27. <\/span><\/b>Reports\nany circumstance which may present a public safety hazard and\/or takes\nappropriate measures to reduce or remove such hazards.<\/o:p><\/p>28. <\/span><\/b>Notifies\ndispatch of location and reason for being out of service, location of vehicle\nstops and vehicle information, and all requests for police service.<\/o:p><\/p>29. <\/span><\/b>Remains\nobedient and responsible to all verbal and written orders issued by superiors\nand to all work assignments transmitted to him\/her by authorized persons.<\/o:p><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/p>
